I don't usually spam folks anymore about political things, but this one

seems simple and so effects our rights for have our vote counted as it
was

intended, the root of a democratic society. It's very easy to sign the

petition - the link goes straight to the site. If you see fit, please

This petition is for a national law giving us voter verified paper
ballots

by 2006. Many of our current voting machines are DRE's (Direct
Recording

Electronic systems) which do not produce a record of individual votes
at

all. Other systems have optical scan ballots, but only the vote total

produced by the ballot scanning software is ever counted. The GAO
continues

to warn that we are too reliant on voting software and that errors can

become certified election results.

HB550 would require that ballots be the vote of record upon which we
base

our election results. The petition's website is:

Please let your voice be heard in Washington by signing this petition,
and

forwarding the link. People of all political affiliations are
interested in

this bill. After all, nothing is more reflexive to the American

Apparently homeowners on Cumberland Gap road had a small opening that
permitted what they thought to be a fox into their garage to munch the
available dog food -- when the puppy was discovered and inquiries
made......a neighbor said, " I just received an email about someone losing
a puppy -- lets give them a call." Cori and Tom are extremely grateful
since their puppy survived the snowstorm last Sunday.

Thanks to the alert--the puppy was found. Yay!!

The Boulder Model Railroad Club is having their annual train show this
Saturday and Sunday, October 15th and 16th.

[puma-news] free monitor filter screen

We are giving away a monitor screen for a 15" CRT type computer
monitor. It is by 3M and is supposed to reduce glare on, and radiation
from the monitor. We had it on our monitor until we got an LCD type.

[puma-news] Please Vote Yes on Ballot 5A!

Dear Neighbors,
If you are in the library district (you got a yellow postcard recently if
you are), you will have a chance to vote on Ballot Issue 5A. This issue
would enable Nederland Community Library to collect the full amount of
taxes that we voters overwhelmingly approved in 2002.

The community library has grown and increased its services to the
community and surrounding areas, but does need the full allotment of taxes
that approval of Ballot 5A would garner in order to cover its operating
expenses.

I have been involved in the library on a volunteer basis as well as a
patron. We are fortunate to now have a staffed library with great
resources for kids, young adults, adults and seniors - let's do what we
can to keep that going!

Please show your support of the library by voting yes for ballot issue 5A
and encouraging everyone else you know to do the same! Remember that this
election is mail-in only, so send your ballot in by October 27th to be
sure your vote will count.

If you have questions about the initiative I'd be happy to try and answer
them.

I don't know of anyone doing plowing for hire. Here's why:

Most services like Sugarloaf don't last very long. The economics just aren't
there. You have an expensive, complex piece of equipment that you are only
using a small amount of time. It has to have a big engine, so it uses a lot
of fuel. When you're using it, it's typically during the worst conditions
(causing breakdowns, which are expensive to fix, and mean you can't charge
for plowing that you can't do). So, you're trying to get enough customers to
pay for that expensive truck and plow, and its maintenance. If you get
enough customers to make a go of it, along comes a big storm. In a big
storm, it takes longer to plow each customer, and what was just enough
customers is now too many! And most of those customers will be upset,
because they want to be plowed first.

This will be the twenty-second winter that I've plowed my 0.7 mile driveway
on Porter Ranch. I also plow HCFD Station #4 and my mother's drive. That's
more than I want to plow, already. I've worn out two plows and one truck
over the years (I'm on my second truck and third plow). In other words, I've
paid a bit of fools' tax, learning the ropes. If someone wants to get a plow
for themselves, I'd be more than happy to share what I've learned, and point
them in the right direction.
